Hornbook Guide to Children (Tuesday , July 01, 2003): "Answers" poses what read like exam questions--e.g., "Why did God tell Noah to build an ark?"--and then provides bland one-paragraph answers. "Who's Who" offers one-page profiles of important Bible characters. Because these serviceably illustrated volumes neither entertain nor give readers a complete version of biblical events, they are inadequate as storybooks or reference books. "Who's Who" contains a glossary. Ind. ]Review covers these titles: "Bible Questions and Answers" and "Who's Who in the Bible". ( (Copyright 2003 by The Horn Book, Incorporated, Boston. School Library Journal (Wednesday, January 01, 2003): Gr 2-4-Brief accounts of 35 Old Testament and 20 New Testament major personalities, as well as God the Creator, the Holy Spirit, and the Twelve Disciples treated as a group, are arranged chronologically and indexed for easy reference. Each character has a full page emphasizing some of the key facts about his or her life. Bible sources are cited, enabling readers to access the full stories. The condensed text is simply expressed in lively, easy-to-read language and realistically illustrated in a variety of sizes by several artists. Most of the pictures duplicate those in Dennis Doyle's The Kingfisher Children's Bible Questions and Answers (2002). This book could be used to stimulate interest in exploring the Scriptures but would not replace a more extensive collection of Bible stories.-Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
