Review: "WOW! I loved this study! For the first time in my life I understand the chronological and geographical events of the Bible from Creation to the New Testament! My children really enjoyed it and had fun with all the maps. It was presented in a way that was easy enough for my 8 and 10 year-olds to grasp but also included enough meat for my 12, 14, and 17 year-olds.

We printed out the maps (Assyria, Babylonia, Persia, etc) from the HOW Internet site and charted each Bible event and location in the portfolios. Keep up the great work!"—Debra Canton, Mom of 5

A multilevel, Bible-focused, Heart of Wisdom Unit Study utilizing the Charlotte Mason Approach and the Internet!

This unique study covers the academic requirements of ancient Mesopotamia as it focuses on Bible geography!

Several early civilizations developed in Mesopotamia simultaneously with Egypt. The early civilizations developed at different paces and times in many areas of the world. In this unit you will study the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Persian civilizations of Mesopotamia. This unit study is central to understanding the beliefs, social norms, and material traits of the Old Testament world. It is the part of the world from which Abram sprang, as well as Babel, Nimrod, King Hezekiah, King Josiah, the prophet Isaiah, and more. The northern portion of this fertile plateau was the original home of the ancestors of the Hebrews (Gen. 11; Acts 7:2). From this region Isaac obtained his wife Rebecca (Gen. 24:10,15), and here also Jacob sojourned (Gen. 28:2-7) and obtained his wives, and here most of his sons were born (Gen. 35:26; 46:15). Abraham led the Hebrews from Mesopotamia to Canaan. This is a critical study not only to understand ancient civilizations but to get a good grasp of Bible geography and chronology. It will also shed light on Bible prophecy. This unit study does not get into Bible prophecy; however, once you understand the political powers of the time you be able understand portions of Revelation and Daniel better. For example: Once you complete the Mesopotamia unit study you and your students should have a good grasp of the major world powers and their effects on the Hebrews: Egypt was the first world power taken over by Assyria, which was taken over by Babylon, which was taken over by Medo-Persia, then by Greece (Alexander the Great).

In the Bible mountains represent governments. In Revelation the seven mountains, then, are the seven major world powers. In Revelation 17:9-11 John said, “The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.”

At the time when this prophecy was given, 90 A.D., five of the seven major world powers had fallen (a word applicable to the fall of once powerful empires):

1) Egypt (Ezek. 29:1-30:26)

2) Assyria (Nah. 3:1-19)

3) Babylon (Rev. 18:2; Jer. 50:1-51:64)

4) Medo-Persia (Dan. 8:3-7, 20-22; 10:13; 11:2)

5) Greece (Dan. 11:4)

“And one is": Rome was in power at the time of the prophecy and was the sixth. "and the other is not yet come": this is the final government of the antichrist, the seventh; "and when he cometh, he must continue a short space." (17:10) this is the short reign of the antichrist world government; "and the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition." It seems to indicate that all seven empires will come and go, and the beast will be the eighth empire just before its "perdition," or destruction...

This is just another reason why it is important to study ancient history from a biblical view!

I love how Robin has integrated God's people into ancient history. We have studied Egypt, the Greeks, Mesopotamia, etc., but I was always left wondering where God's people were and what they were doing during this time period.

We are just getting started on this journey and I already love it. I am so pleased to find an Hebraic approach to learning that is for the entire family, not just the school-aged.

The lessons are well-written and offer many resources, both books and the Internet, so there's no trouble finding information for research. The website gives lots of ideas for simplifying them for younger students too, as well as tons of good information on education.

Super study! Just what I needed to pull together all the Old Testament events. Bible geography and the order of events were a jigsaw puzzle with way too many pieces for us to figure out. This study put together the pieces in a logical way to help us see how the events unfolded. The maps are great. I learned more than the children and now feel like I have a good grasp of the whole story. I can't wait for the New Testament Early Church! We've enjoyed several units (I purchased the combined volume) but this one has been my favorite. HOW is fabulous!
