The adventures of eleven-year-old Adam as he travels the open roads of thirteenth-century England searching for his missing father, a minstrel, and his stolen red spaniel, Nick. The story has a trace of romance...a young squire moons a bit over a young Lady who is later wed to one more worthy of her station.
A well written story, and especially appealing as an introduction /enhancement to a study of the Middle Ages. The story brings alive the era with rich historical background on the time and place in which the story is set. It's not about particular historical figures and events, as some books are, but rather envelopes the reader in the sights, sounds, smells, classes, occupations and setting of the day. Good read-aloud.
